Outpatient Coder (PT)
Schedule: Part-time
Location: USA – Remote
Start Date: Position open until filled
Job Responsibilities:
- Assign ICD-10-CM diagnoses and CPT-4, HCPCS procedure codes upon review of clinical documentation for selection of appropriate first-listed and secondary diagnoses and procedures if performed for facility outpatient services (ED, OPS, OBS)
- Assign appropriate modifiers when required
- Working knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, and HCPCS
- Working knowledge of facility injection and infusion coding
- Working knowledge of national and local coverage determination policies, medical necessity and the outpatient code editor
- Ensure APC assignment is accurate
- Maintain coding accuracy of 98% or higher
- Abide by AHIMA standards of Ethical coding
- Adhere to Official Coding Guidelines, facility-coding guidelines, and published official advice
- Maintain a thorough understanding of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, disease processes and surgical techniques through participation in continuing education programs
- Assist with special projects as required
Outpatient Coder Job Requirements:
- Must have at least one of the following coding certifications: CCS, CIC, CPC, RHIT, RHIA
- Minimum of 2 years’ outpatient coding experience
- Experience with multiple EHR, Encoder and CAC systems, preferred edge
