Outpatient Coder (PT)

Schedule: Part-time
Location: USA – Remote
Start Date: Position open until filled

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assign ICD-10-CM diagnoses and CPT-4, HCPCS procedure codes upon review of clinical documentation for selection of appropriate first-listed and secondary diagnoses and procedures if performed for facility outpatient services (ED, OPS, OBS)
  • Assign appropriate modifiers when required
  • Working knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, and HCPCS
  • Working knowledge of facility injection and infusion coding
  • Working knowledge of national and local coverage determination policies, medical necessity and the outpatient code editor
  • Ensure APC assignment is accurate
  • Maintain coding accuracy of 98% or higher
  • Abide by AHIMA standards of Ethical coding
  • Adhere to Official Coding Guidelines, facility-coding guidelines, and published official advice
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, disease processes and surgical techniques through participation in continuing education programs
  • Assist with special projects as required

Outpatient Coder Job Requirements:

  • Must have at least one of the following coding certifications: CCS, CIC, CPC, RHIT, RHIA
  • Minimum of 2 years’ outpatient coding experience
  • Experience with multiple EHR, Encoder and CAC systems, preferred edge
